Reinstalling because you are moving to a new computer (using Windows 7 or 8) or upgrading an existing computer to Windows 7 or 8

Older versions of the software have reached their end of life, and we no longer support them. Also, the older versions may not run properly on Window 7 or 8. If you have updated your existing computer to Windows 7 or 8, or you are moving to a new computer that uses Windows 7 or 8, you will need to upgrade your Vending Essentials software to the latest version. Here are the basic steps to take.

  1. Back up your database.
As a side note, all of the data is stored in one convenient database file, named sweet.db. You just need to back up this database file like you would any other file in order to keep all of your data safe. You can copy the file to a CD, external hard drive, USB jump drive, ZIP disk, or any other media that has enough space to hold the file.
  2. Install the original software on your new/upgraded computer. You must have the original downloaded installation program, or an installation CD. If you have the downloaded installation program, you must copy that file to the new/upgraded computer, then run it to start the install. If you have the installation CD, put that in your CD/DVD drive to start the install. This will re-install the software with a blank database on the new/upgraded computer. It is important that you install the same version of the software on the new/upgraded computer that you were using on the old computer.
  3. Copy your previous database over the newly installed blank database, on your new/upgraded computer.
  4. Purchase and install the newest version of the software. (Click here for the product purchase page.)

Upgrading an older version of the software

Versions purchased 2012 and later

You should be able to simply do the following.

  1. Backup your database. (Click here for detailed instructions.)
  2. Purchase and install the latest version of the software. (Click here for the product purchase page.)

All database updates necessary will be taken care of during the install. After the install, you should be able to start up your new version of the software and resume working with it.

Versions purchased prior to 2012

If you have older versions of the software, purchased prior to 2012 (for example, Deluxe 2.6, Enterprise 3.0, and some older versions of Premier) these are no longer supported, and it will likely not be possible to bring your data up to date with the latest version. However, there might be a chance you could successfully upgrade your software and bring your old database up to date. You can try the following steps.

  1. Backup your database. (Click here for detailed instructions.)
  2. Purchase and install the newest version of the software. (Click here for the product purchase page.)
  3. Try running the software, and see if you get any errors. If you get errors, then unfortunately this means your old software version is too old for the database to be brought up to date. Not having updated the software for so long leaves you with only one option: you will have to re-enter all of your data from scratch within the latest version of the software. How feasible this option is for you depends on how much old data you have.
